South Molton’s First Food Fest!
On Sunday 29th March, the South Molton Business Association (SMBA) will be hosting the town’s first ‘Food Fest’, in the Pannier Market.
The event will be run in conjunction with North Devon +, using their successful North Devon Food Fest as a model. So expect loads of food and drink stalls, showcasing both fresh produce as well as many different delicious cooked foods, be that hog roasts, curries, or traditional fayre such as breads, pies and pastries. As well as a plethora of savouries the aim is to fill the market with stalls selling mouth watering cakes, biscuits, and fruit filled jams and spicy chutneys. And as the area is fortunate to have cider and fruit juice producers, hopefully there will be the opportunity to try a real Devon tipple and local produced ales.
As well as these foodie goodies, there will be a stage where visitors can enjoy a variety of demonstrations, cookery competitions and live music. There are also plans to involve pupils from South Molton Community College in the event and to ensure the Food Fest offers loads of opportunities, professional caterers of all shapes and sizes, be they cafes, fast food outlets, pubs, snack bars, restaurants etc will also be asked to participate.
David Walker, SMBA Chairman said:
“We are fortunate that South Molton is situated in the middle of an agricultural area with some of the best quality produce in the country. This is coupled with a tradition of great home cooking, using seasonal, local food, meaning that overall there are many businesses with food and drink at their heart.
The Barnstaple Food Fest is a great success and no doubt this is one of the reasons we have already been taking bookings for next March. Our fees are only £30 for a single or £60 for a double stall, which we feel is both competitive and affordable for the smallest business. We will be giving priority to SMBA members, then those businesses based in South Molton or one of the 32 parishes that feed into it, and expect bookings to fill up rapidly.”
David continued:
“SMBA is a non profit making organisation, but any funds raised by the Food Fest, as with all the others we run, will be ploughed right back into the local community”.
