Step by Step Patchwork Centre
Welcome to Step by Step Patchwork Centre!
We are a patchwork and quilting shop and classroom rooted in our local community, with the idea that we should be here for everyone, whether they are a professional or have never picked up a needle before.
Julia started Step by Step in 1999 with her business partner, Anne, after a career in adult education, realising that her home craft classes deserved a wider audience. When Anne retired the business relocated to their current premises.
After studying at university, Julia’s daughter Emily joined the team and now runs the shop/haberdashery. She also runs some of our workshops and classes and is always on hand to help out with patchwork and fabric-related enquiries.
The team has been made complete with the addition of Molly, the border terrier. An active if erratic, member of staff, you can find her interacting with the customers or, sometimes, with her head stuck under the cutting table, playing with one of her balls.
We stock a wide range of fabrics including; Moda, Makower, Lewis & Irene and Free Spirit (prices start at £9.99 per metre). Alongside the fabric we have a selection of waddings, threads, general haberdashery, as well as the Elna range of sewing machines. We also offer sewing machine servicing and repair on most makes and models. If we haven’t got what you need, we probably know someone that does.
We have daily classes for the novice and experienced stitcher alike. Our ever-popular Saturday workshops are worth an investigation, there’s something for everyone; including a getting to know your sewing machine class, and a back to basics patchwork class.
