South Molton Library Events for December 2019 and January 2020

Fri-Library Knit-Natter Group 16:00-17:30; Friendly drop-in group, bring your craft projects with you. Sat-Lego Club 10:00-12:00; Free. Let your imagination run wild. December

The Winter Mini Challenge starts 2nd DECEMBER and finishes 13th JANUARY 2020. The Winter challenge works like the Summer Reading Challenge. You track your progress online; read 3 books then rate and review them at www.winterreadingchallenge.org.uk.

Wed 4th December 14:00-16:00—Writing Group. £2.50pp

Fri 6th 16:00-17:30—Knit and Natter Group. Weekly group; bring along your knitting or crochet and enjoy a cup of tea. Also on the 13th and 20th.

Sat 7th and 21st 10:30-11:30—Spanish Conversation group, with friendly and experienced teacher Mary.

Tue 10th 10:30-11—Bounce and Rhyme, Ten Minutes to Bed: Little Unicorn’s Christmas story and craft. Just pop in and sing some nursery rhymes then stay for the story and craft.

Sat 14th 10:30-12— Christmas craft with Linda. Free but donations accepted.

Sat 14th 10:30-12—Creative Writing group. Free to come along and share work. Ideas generated on the day.

Tues 17th 10:30-11:30—Bounce and Rhyme Christmas craft and story time. Maybe with tea/coffee and mince pies.

Thur 19th 18:30—Classic Film Night; showing 1938 romance ‘You Can’t Take It With You’ staring James Stewart and Jean Arthur and directed by Frank Capra. A man from a family of rich snobs becomes engaged to a woman from a good-natured but eccentric family. Free entry and festive refreshments for donations.

January

Tuesday 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th – Walking for Health join Roger Warren, trained fitness instructor, who will be leading walks from the library to last around an hour. Start at library for 9am. Free, back to library for refreshments.

Wed 8th 11-12 Roger Warren from Ftness4LivingND will be leading another walk. Return to the library for tea.

Thurs 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th 10:30-11:30 Better Together. Social group that welcomes all and meets every week.

Thurs 9th 15:00-16:30 – Board Games Club for children and adults, home schoolers welcome. We have some games but feel free to bring along cards or a game of your own.

Sat 11th 10:00-11:00 – Dogs Trust Talk. If you can, looking after a dog can be a good boost for your physical and mental health. Learn more about adopting a dog with Amy from the Dogs Trust.

Tues 14th 14:00-15:00 An uplifting talk on the Joy of Writing with Jonathan Edmunds. From diaries, autobiographies, poems or blogs, getting our thoughts and ideas down on paper can be therapeutic.

Wed 15th 15:00- 16:30- Belly Dancing. Try something new; get those hips moving, wiggle that waist and get a workout at this free taster with Millie. Book with the library.

Thur 16th 11:00-12:00- Walks with Fitness4LivingND. Roger hopes to lead some shorter walks than the regular Tuesday class, there may be a chance to try Nordic walking for those who wish to try something more challenging. Let us know if you are interested.

Wed 22nd 11:00-12:00 and Thur 30th 12:00-13:00 – Seated Exercises. Based on current NHS guidelines for older people these sessions will look at ways of improving strength, balance and flexibility. Book with us.

Wed 22nd 19:00-21:00 Quiz Night. £2per person, 6 max to a team. Raffle and nibbles. Book with us.

Wed 29th 13:30-14:30 Tai Chi. Limited places so you must book with us; a chance to try this ancient way to control movements and breathing and generate internal energy and mindfulness. Free.

Thur 30th 18:30 Classic Film Night. Showing ‘All the Kings Men’, 1949, a political thriller staring Broderick Crawford tells the tale of the rise and fall of a corrupt politician. No need to book.
