Castle Hill Gardens
Welcome to Castle Hill Gardens
The gardens are open daily throughout the year (except Saturdays)
- 11am – 5pm April to September
- 11am – dusk October to March
- Groups and coach parties are welcome at all times by prior arrangement.
During the season you will receive a lovely welcome from Michelle or Lesley at the garden kiosk, who can then direct our younger visitors to the Tanglewood Tree for an exhilarating climb on one of our oldest trees in the garden. From the end of September the kiosk is not manned but you are still very welcome and will find an honesty box for your admission payments.
A trip to North Devon would not be complete without a visit to Castle Hill to see the gardens. Truly a ‘garden for all seasons’ there is such a variety of things to see and activities for children to enjoy that you can spend all day here. Why not bring the family for a picnic, let the children run around, explore and learn in the safe environment of our family friendly 50 acre garden near South Molton. After your walk come and enjoy a cream tea or local ice-cream at the garden kiosk. Four legged friends on leads are welcome too!
Castle Hill Gardens surround the magnificent Palladian house, seat of the Fortescues since 1454. The house was built in 1730 as the Earl Fortescue’s family home in North Devon. Today, Castle Hill is home to his descendants, the Earl and Countess of Arran. It is set in a spectacular 18th century parkland landscape punctuated with statues, follies and temples built by each generation of the Fortescues.
