Highbullen Hotel up for Triple Win at 2014 Devon Tourism Awards

Highbullen Hotel, Golf & Country Club is proud to announce that it has been shortlisted in three categories at the prestigious 2014 Devon Tourism Awards which will take place in the hotel’s newly opened ‘The Palazzo’ on 19th November 2014.

The hotel, which came under new ownership in 2012, and since this time has seen £5 million invested in wholesale improvements across the 125-acre Estate, is a finalist for ‘Best Large Hotel’ (over 35 bedrooms), the ‘Taste of Devon Award’ and ‘Dog Friendly Accommodation’ (a new award for 2014).

Highbullen’s extensive range of facilities, and the centrepiece Manor House, the design of which was influenced by the ‘father’ of the Arts and Crafts movement Philip Webb, have secured the hotel’s place on the final shortlist for Best Large Hotel.

Highbullen’s facilities include, 36 individually decorated rooms, 18-hole golf course, leisure club with indoor and outdoor pools and fully equipped gym, seven all weather tennis courts, country pursuits including shooting and fishing, a range of dining options including the fine dining Devon View and the newly refurbished cellars bar. The hotel is also about to open a new conference and events venue The Palazzo. All of this combines to give Highbullen one of the most compelling leisure and business hotel offers in the South West.

The Taste of Devon Award recognises the county’s best food and drinks offerings, and is one of the most hotly contested categories. The Devon View Restaurant with its spectacular views, locally sourced and seasonal menu expertly cooked by Highbullen’s restaurant team, is the showpiece of Highbullen which also offers more informal dining options in the Pavilion and Cellars Bar. The team have put The Devon View on the map over the past two years, and being shortlisted will ensure it continues to be one of Devon’s key destination restaurants.

Dog Friendly Accommodation is a new category for 2014, and Highbullen is definitely a ‘pooch paradise’. There are four pet friendly rooms (which are also family friendly) and the hotel also offers guests its ‘Highbullen Hounds Package’ which includes an in-room basket, bed and lead, a specially prepared two course ‘dogs dinner’, a doggy goody-bag filled with treats and a selection of dog-friendly country walks.

Highbullen is also proud to host the 2014 Devon Tourism Awards in the soon to open conference and events centre, The Palazzo. The Palazzo will be the newest and most state-of-the-art venue in Devon and, with its classical Roman architectural styling combining glamour, innovation and space for 4-400 guests across six function and meeting rooms, it will offer facilities the South West has not yet seen. The Awards will be The Palazzo’s inaugural event and gives Highbullen the chance to show the best of Devon’s tourism industry just what it has to offer.

“We are thrilled to be such a huge part of the 2014 Devon Tourism Awards,” comments James Hemming, Hotel Manager of Highbullen. “To be shortlisted for three awards and to host the ceremony itself is a testament to just how much the Highbullen team has achieved since our new owner Frank Chapman bought the hotel in 2012. The changes across the Estate have been considerable, and the team has worked tirelessly to provide the best facilities, rooms and service possible to make Highbullen a stand out hotel not just in Devon but in the UK.

“We look forward to hosting guests on the 19th November and of course to collecting our awards.”
